Introduction
As Aimee Perrin prepares to celebrate her 65th birthday, her story unfolds as a remarkable testament to the power of dietary transformation. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the young age of 16, Aimee’s journey through health and nutrition has been nothing short of extraordinary. Embracing the Carnivore Diet, a drastic shift from her previous dietary habits, Aimee has demonstrated a profound resilience and an unwavering commitment to her health. Married for 40 years to her artist husband, Dennis, who also follows the Carnivore Diet, Aimee stands as an inspiring figure not just to her family of three children and five grandchildren, but to everyone battling chronic health issues.
Aimee’s narrative challenges the conventional understanding of ‘incurable’ diseases. Her decades-long quest for natural healing led her from vegetarianism to a raw vegan diet, and finally to the high-fat, low-carb principles of the Carnivore Diet. This journey reflects her belief in the healing power of the right diet. Aimee’s experience is a beacon of hope, illustrating that age and chronic conditions are not barriers to improving one’s health and vitality. Through her story, we’re invited to rethink our own nutritional paths and consider how our food choices can dramatically alter our lives.
A Lifelong Quest for Healing: Embracing the Carnivore Diet
Aimee Perrin’s journey to the Carnivore Diet is a chronicle of persistence and exploration in pursuit of health. Her dietary evolution is a testament to her belief in the potential for healing. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a tender age, Aimee spent decades seeking a diet that could offer her more than just symptomatic relief. Her path was marked by various dietary regimens, from a 20-year span as an ovo-lacto vegetarian to a raw vegan period and years of low-carb, high-fat eating before finally embracing the Carnivore Diet.
Her decision to try the Carnivore Diet was driven by a relentless quest to improve her health and a hope to heal her long-standing diabetes. Aimee’s approach to the diet is unique and adaptive. She indulges in a high-fat variation, incorporating eggs, bacon, steaks, and butter from local farms into her daily meals. The simplicity and satisfaction derived from these foods have led to significant improvements in her energy levels, eye health, skin condition, and overall well-being. These benefits, coupled with better sleep and intriguing dreams, mark a remarkable change from her pre-Carnivore days.
However, Aimee’s journey wasn’t without challenges. She faced initial digestive adjustments and took months to adapt fully to this new way of eating. Nevertheless, her perseverance paid off, leading to a stable and satisfying dietary routine. Aimee’s dedication extends beyond her diet; she integrates daily walks and bodyweight exercises, including an ambitious goal of 100 pushups a day, into her lifestyle.
Her story is not just about dietary choices but a holistic approach to health, reflecting a deep understanding of the body’s potential to heal and thrive. Aimee’s experience is a powerful message for anyone considering a radical dietary change for health reasons, emphasizing the importance of patience, personalization, and persistence.
Revitalized Energy and Simplified Nutrition
One of the most significant benefits Aimee Perrin has experienced since adopting the Carnivore Diet is a substantial increase in her energy levels. This change is especially noteworthy given her long-standing battle with type 1 diabetes. The Carnivore Diet, with its emphasis on high-fat, protein-rich foods like meats and eggs, has provided Aimee with a consistent and reliable source of energy throughout the day. This contrasts sharply with the energy fluctuations she previously encountered on other diets.
Additionally, the Carnivore Diet has brought an unexpected simplicity to Aimee’s life. The diet’s straightforward nature—focusing primarily on animal products—has made grocery shopping and meal preparation less time-consuming and more manageable. The simplicity of the diet also extends to its satiety factor; the high-fat content provides a sense of fullness and satisfaction, reducing the need for frequent meals or snacks. This aspect of the diet has been particularly liberating for Aimee, as it aligns with her busy lifestyle as a grandmother and her husband’s artistic pursuits.
Moreover, sourcing food has become a more mindful practice for Aimee. By choosing to consume products mainly from local farms, she ensures the quality of her food and supports sustainable practices. This approach not only benefits her health but also contributes positively to her community and environment.
In essence, the Carnivore Diet has not just been a dietary change for Aimee but a lifestyle transformation. It has streamlined her daily routines, allowing her more time and energy to focus on the things she loves, further enhancing her overall quality of life.
Remarkable Improvements in Physical Health
The Carnivore Diet has played a pivotal role in enhancing Aimee Perrin’s physical health in multiple ways. One of the most striking improvements Aimee has experienced is in her sleep quality. Since transitioning to the Carnivore Diet, her sleep has become more restful, and she has noticed an increase in vivid and interesting dreams. This improvement in sleep quality is crucial for overall health, particularly for someone managing a chronic condition like type 1 diabetes.
Another significant benefit Aimee has observed is the positive effect on her eye health. She reports a near-complete resolution of the floaters in her eyes, a common annoyance that can be distracting and sometimes impair vision. This change is remarkable, considering that floaters are often considered a permanent condition with limited treatment options.
The Carnivore Diet has also positively impacted Aimee’s skin health. A persistent patch of flaking, painful, and irritated skin on her eyebrow, which was a source of discomfort, has completely healed. This healing is indicative of the diet’s anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to improve skin conditions.
Furthermore, the diet’s role in stabilizing Aimee’s digestive health cannot be understated. Although she initially faced digestive challenges during her transition to the Carnivore Diet, these issues have since resolved, leading to a more comfortable and regular digestive process.
The physical health benefits Aimee has experienced are a testament to the impact of dietary choices on our body’s functioning. Her journey highlights the Carnivore Diet’s potential to not only alleviate symptoms of chronic conditions but also to contribute to a more vibrant and healthier life. Aimee’s story is a powerful example of how a targeted dietary approach can lead to profound physical transformations, offering hope and inspiration to others facing similar health challenges.
Conclusion
Aimee Perrin’s story is a remarkable narrative of determination, exploration, and transformation. Her transition to the Carnivore Diet at the age of 65, after years of battling type 1 diabetes and exploring various dietary regimes, stands as a powerful testament to the adage that it’s never too late to change your life. The profound improvements in her energy levels, sleep quality, eye health, and skin condition are not just changes; they are manifestations of a rejuvenated life.
Aimee’s experience underscores the idea that diet is not just about managing symptoms or diseases but about nurturing a state of holistic well-being. Her journey from a vegetarian to a raw vegan, and eventually to the Carnivore Diet, illustrates the importance of listening to one’s body and being open to change. Her story is particularly inspiring because it challenges common perceptions about aging and chronic diseases, showing that improvement is possible at any stage of life.
As Aimee continues to share her journey, her story becomes a beacon of hope and guidance for others seeking to improve their health. It reminds us that with the right approach, determination, and willingness to experiment, significant health transformations are achievable. Aimee’s journey through the Carnivore Diet is not just a personal success story; it’s a narrative that has the power to inspire and motivate others to take control of their health and well-being.
Interview with Aimee
Introduce Yourself
Hi, I’m Aimee Perrin. I’ll celebrate my 65th birthday in July. I’ve been married to my awesome artist husband, Dennis Perrin for 40 years this summer. He started eating carnivore 20 days before I did! We have 3 children, all grown up and 5 grandchildren, so I’m a grandmother! I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1971 at age 16. By the time I was 22 years, after college, I became a vegetarian and started researching natural healing. Even though type 1 diabetes is called an incurable disease, I have believed that it is healable if I found the right combination of diet and/or therapies. So I haven’t touched the Standard American Diet for the last 43 years. I tried just about every healing diet out there over the years.
How did you eat before Carnivore?
Right before carnivore, I had eaten very low carb, high fat or Keto for the last 9 years. But before that, I was raw vegan for 7 years from 2003-2010. Before that, I was low carb eating meat, eggs, cheese, and veggies for 1996-2003. Before that was about 20 years ovo-lacto Vegetarian from 1976-1996. And before that, I was a kid eating the Standard American Diet.
Why did you try Carnivore to begin with?
I’ll try any diet that I feel promises to improve my health, period. I’m hoping to heal type 1 diabetes, 48 years, and improve my hands, dupuytren contracture, causing all fingers to stay bent.
How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet
I’m open to switching things up, but right now I eat eggs and bacon for breakfast, a half a steak for lunch, usually a ribeye, and a burger and egg scramble and butter with pork belly. I tend to eat a high-fat version, using raw grass-fed jersey butter that I get from a local farm. The meat and eggs I eat come mostly from a local farm. I’m planning on giving up coffee and dairy next month for a 30-day experiment to see if that could help further in my healing.
What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet?
My energy is better, all day. The food is simple to prepare and to buy and extremely satisfying. The floaters in my eyes are nearly completely gone. My sleep is better and my dreams have increased and are interesting. I used to almost never dream. I used to have this pesky patch of flaking painful and irritated skin on an eyebrow, and now it’s completely gone! And I am definitely hoping for more healing. Travel is very easy on carnivore!
What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet
It took over 5 and a half months for the diarrhea every morning to stop. But now I have formed poops. I really don’t see any negatives.
Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do
I walk several miles every day and I do body weight exercises like pushups, squats and stuff like that. As part of my month long healing experiment, I am doing 100 pushups everyday. That will be May 12 to June 12.
What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet
Do it! Eat meat that you like. If you get muscle cramps, take potassium and magnesium and drink plenty of water.
Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet
I’m not sure I would even want that, I like being different. I do think the Carnivore Diet will be known as one of the options when someone is looking to lose weight or improve their health. Speaking of losing weight, that was never a reason for me, I’ve always been thin and haven’t been an unconscious eater for the last 43 years, that long without junk food!
Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow your journey?
My Instagram is @thebuttereater_t1d and I’m Aimee Fields Perrin on FB. I write a blog about my journey that I started when I was Keto, so there are some keto recipes on the blog. Frequently Asked Questions
Are I really going to need a Keto Food List or not?
How do you determine if you require a keto food plan? Probably an important part of your keto journey. You can unlock the potential benefits of the ketogenic lifestyle by eating the right foods, high in fat and low in carbs. Finding the best fuel to achieve your goals can seem difficult with so many food options and recipes.
Knowing which foods are permitted on the keto diet can make meal planning easier and help ensure that you have enough variety every day. A keto food checklist simplifies the process by giving information about what you should consume and some suggestions on how to prepare them. You can also use it as a reference guide to help you shop at the supermarket or at restaurants.
A well-balanced nutrition approach can also help you lose weight while maintaining your overall health. For the metabolic state of ketosis to occur, this should include 12-15% protein, 15%-30% fat and no more that 5% net carbs. The goal is to identify the most desirable meals and choose those that are high in nutrients while minimizing carbs.
Finding a reliable keto food list that outlines nutritious options within these parameters can provide invaluable guidance in transitioning toward cleaner eating habits for improved well-being and purposeful living. You are one step closer towards achieving your lifestyle goals by taking advantage of this resource.
What happens to keto if you consume more than 20 carbohydrates?
You might be wondering what the consequences could be if you consume more keto carbohydrates than you should. This is a critical thought that must be considered. Too many carbs can cause weight gain or stall weight loss.
Unravelling the conundrum of how much is too much when it comes to carbs requires understanding how they interact with your body and how quickly your body processes them.
When following a low-carbohydrate diet like the ketogenic, it is important to not eat too many processed carbs. Your body should not consume more carbohydrate than it needs. This means that you should limit your daily intake of carbohydrate to 20g. It is crucial to be aware of this number when trying to maintain ketosis. Exceeding it can cause an imbalance in your body, which can lead to slow progress.
For optimal health and best results with tracking macronutrients, it is a good idea to stick within the recommended limits of a ketogenic diet. Doing so reinforces how your body breaks down these macro components for energy production - an essential process for those seeking sustainable weight loss and physiological balance.
What's a good example of a ketogenic dinner?
Feasting on a ketogenic diet has never been easier. Think of it like regular healthy eating, but with a twist. A twist includes ditching processed carbs and replacing them with high-quality proteins and fats.
You'll enjoy the numerous health benefits this diet offers, such as improved energy, cognitive performance and better digestion. And you'll be able to do it all while enjoying delicious meals full of great-tasting ingredients.
What would a delicious ketogenic dinner look like? It could be as simple as grilled salmon with fresh parmesan, paired with roasted potatoes drizzled with olive oils, and garnished with freshly-cut herbs. You could make an omelet that is filled with bacon bits, flavorful bell and peppers, and melted cheddar cheese.
You don't have to go the easy way when you are trying to make your next keto dish. Quality ingredients will make any meal a success. Go ahead, get in the kitchen! Explore new flavours and try healthy recipes to improve your quality of life.
What's a recommended lazy keto diet to start?
The beginning of your keto journey is exciting, but it can also be intimidating. There are many books, websites and nutrition advice that can overwhelm you. This is where the lazy keto diet comes in.
Rather than tracking every detail of your macros, a lazy keto diet focuses on reducing net carbohydrate intake to 25-50 grams daily to enter and stay in a state of ketosis. This approach is far less strict than traditional keto diets because you don't have to keep such close tabs on caloric intake or macronutrient ratio.
A lazy ketogenic diet is essentially a way to forgo tracking macros and eat whole, low-carb foods you love. This includes meats, eggs and dairy products as well as vegetables. Starchy carbs and added sugars are discouraged.
If you're looking for an easier way into low-carb living without sacrificing delicious meals or missing out on important nutrients - this may be just the thing for you! Lazy Keto can be a great choice for those just starting their journey to healthy eating.
Can you eat oatmeal on keto?
The most difficult thing to solve is the unanswered question. And when it comes to finding the right food choices for the keto diet, many still feel overwhelmed and lost. Oatmeal, for example, is full of carbohydrates.
You can still eat oatmeal, but it's possible to make a keto lifestyle out of oatmeal. It all comes down to the type of oatmeal and how much.
You need to look at the ingredients, such as nuts, seeds and other low-carb add-ons, that are combined into one deliciously nutritious dish. Pure oats have a high content of fibre, protein, vitamins and minerals. This makes them very suitable for keto.
Also, be mindful of how many oats you are adding to your daily meal. Do not try to run a marathon or overindulge in every overnight meal. Be mindful of your portion sizes and maximize the flavour potential of innovative ingredients like coconut milk and chia seed.
If done properly, oatmeal can make a great breakfast choice within a Keto nutrition plan. If you aren't careful, it won't be easy to convince someone that following your principles means giving up on taste. Proper planning can produce serious results.
What happens the first week of keto?
Before you start to prepare for the ketogenic diet, it is important to do your research. It is important to know what foods you should eat and how much carbohydrate you can eat each day. Learning which foods help create the right balance of macronutrients is also important.
Once you have the basics, it's time to start building meals that support your new lifestyle. Consuming whole, unprocessed foods will speed up your body's adaptation to this new way of living. A few easy tweaks such as including more healthy fats or proteins in every meal can dramatically improve energy levels, focus, and help with cravings.
Next, you need to learn how to manage portion sizes and meal times while following the keto diet. This will allow your body enter a ketosis state where it burns fat for energy instead of sugar. This can be achieved by tracking macros, or consulting with a nutritionist to get one-on-1 advice.
When transitioning into keto, newcomers must take their time. They need to ensure that their bodies are ready for the change before they can go full throttle. When starting this journey, it is important to get enough sleep and keep hydrated. Allow yourself three days to assess whether this is working for your body. Each person responds differently to different things so you can give it some time.
Can I eat a dairy-free keto diet?
Absolutely! You can! Keto diet plans aim to reduce carb intake and increase healthy fats. However, there are plenty of plant-based alternative options to choose from to stay within your chosen guidelines.
First, find the proteins and fats that work for you. Avocado oil, coconut oil, tahini and nut butter all make great substitutes for butter. Meat substitutes, such as tofu or tempeh, can be used as an alternate source of protein. Nuts and seed provide delicious crunchy textures.
Regarding sweets, creamy coconut milk or plant-based yogurts make amazing substitutions for heavy cream or sour cream -- add sugar or honey for sweeter recipes. Cheese lovers may try vegan cheese made from cashews or macadamia nuts to replace dairy cheese.
Don't forget to add other seasonings to make your dishes stand out. You can flavor foods with herbs, spices or vinegar. It doesn't matter if you don't remember the principles of ketogenic eating, but you can recognize delicious ways around food restrictions to keep your keto-friendly diet on track.

How To
How to determine if the Ketogenic Diet is right for you
To understand the power and potential benefits of your food, you need to first explore them. You can have a better mental and physical well-being, as well as a healthier body.
The ketogenic diet is one possible solution that may provide results that speak for themselves - but how do you know if it's working? It's important that you can accurately assess the impact of this eating style on your health and lifestyle.
Tracking your responses to the diet plan is one way to do this. Consider how much energy you feel throughout the day. Do you feel fuller longer after meals? Has your digestion improved? Is your overall sleep quality better? Does one activity increase or decrease the discomfort?
All of these are important to take into account. These are all important factors to consider. Also, track any metabolic changes, such cholesterol and blood sugar levels. This can give you an indication if the ketogenic program is working for you.
You should also check on your body composition. Is there any change in fat loss, muscle gain, or both? The ketogenic diet can be beneficial if you experience slow but steady progress over time.
