Daniel Munro is my name. I am a Canadian musician that has struggled with atopic dermitis and topical steroids withdrawal for the past 5 years.
2) What did you eat prior to Carnivore?
I mostly ate processed junk food and fast-food. When I made food for myself, it was mostly pasta, stir-fry (usually with a variety vegetables such as peppers, mushroom, broccoli and chicken breast with a teriyaki), fruit smoothies or toast with eggs. I also was a frequent drinker.
Why did you first try Carnivore?
I tried everything. My wife Kelsey, and I tried many different diets after my health started to decline. We began with a vegetarian, followed by a paleo diet, keto and then back to the paleo diet. I had an IgE/IgG allergy blood test and I cut out all foods that were offending from my diet for more than a year. After trying everything else, I finally tried carnivore. By the end of my very first month, I started to see results.
4) What is your personal approach to the Carnivore Diet?
We do our best to cook nose-to-tail. We include organ meats in our diet and drink broth almost daily. I usually start my day with bone broth and then wait until 10AM to eat. I usually eat one can of sardines. At lunch, I have 10 oz. When I get home, I will have whatever meat is available: steak, chicken wings and bacon. I'll eat whatever meat I can find when I get home: pork butt, bacon, chicken wings and steak are some of my favorites.
5) What are the benefits you have seen since beginning your Carnivore Diet?
My skin has cleared up. My neck, wrists and fingers had small cracks. My face, feet, and hands were oozing. I was unable to work and was mostly bed-ridden for four years. My sleep schedule was a mess. I could not sleep at night, and I would lie awake in the middle of the night unable sleep despite being exhausted. Now I sleep well at night. A surprising benefit is the huge reduction in depression that I've been dealing with my whole life. My depression decreased so slowly that I barely noticed it. But as my physical state improved, my mental health also began to improve. This diet has made me feel more relaxed and calm. I believe my gut health has been destroyed by eating a lot of processed carbs and eating too much. This probably stressed out my digestive system, and caused me a lot more stress.
What are the negatives of the Carnivore Diet?
It's difficult to eat something that I didn't prepare myself. Eating in conventional restaurants is almost impossible because they tend to use seed oil or cross-contaminate my food with something I react to. On this diet, I've also found it difficult to gain weight. This could be because of my dysbiosis in the gut.
7) Do You Exercise on the Carnivore Diet? If so, how do you go about it?
My job (shipping/receiving), is very physical. I am constantly lifting heavy boxes and walking. I also do a lot yoga, and I try to squeeze in some kettlebell and body weight workouts when I can.
8) What advice would you offer to someone who has been considering this diet but isn't ready to make the jump?
Nose to tail. You need organ meat to get all the nutrients you can't get from vegetables. Bone marrow can also be a great source of nutrients.
9) Do You Think Carnivore Diet Will Ever Be Accepted As A Mainstream Diet?
This is a subject I go back and forth about. There is a huge push to stop eating meat. When you consider the benefits that people experience, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. You can obtain almost all of the vitamins, amino acids, and nutrients you need to thrive by eating meat. This is in a form that is more bio-available. We have a single stomach, a small colon and lack the enzymes to digest plant matter. In the beginning, we developed tools to extract the bone marrow of animal bones. We ate animal products much longer than today. There's a good reason to believe that many of us haven't adapted well to the modern diet high in carbohydrates.

Finding a supportive community online is a great way to help you with this diet. This diet is not followed by anyone I know. Some would think it was crazy. Support online will give you useful tips to maximize your results and stop you feeling like a meat-crazed freak.
