1) Tell us about yourself.
Richard here. I am 42. I am engaged to my fiancee Emma, and we have a son of 3 years old who is on a ketogenic eating plan.
2) What did you eat prior to Carnivore?
Ketogenic diet 7 months. Before this, I tried and failed with low-calorie, low-fat diets.
Why did you first try Carnivore?
I initially started it as a trial of one month, not intending to continue. After a failed attempt at weight loss with keto, I decided to try this. I was intrigued by claims of better digestion and leaner body.
4) What is your personal approach to the Carnivore Diet?
Eat beef and 6 eggs at least once a day. I eat many different meats such as lamb, pork and chicken. Also, I like to eat salmon, trout haddock, scallops and prawns. For beef, lamb, and pork, I choose the fattiest cuts. I cook mostly with ghee or beef dripping/tallow. I eat liver, heart and kidneys twice a week on average. I season my food with salt, pepper and onion powder. Sometimes, I add paprika and chilli powder. I only use low-carb hot sauces as condiments. I do not completely avoid dairy, but I limit it. I like to eat desserts made with eggs, sourcream, vanilla, and erythritol. Mineral water is my main drink. Recently, I have switched from black coffee to black tea. Treats are extremely rare and strictly limited to foods that are keto, such as nut flours and cacao. Meal frequency usually is OMAD or 2-MAD without snacks. I eat until my stomach is completely full.
5) What are the benefits you have seen since beginning your Carnivore Diet?
Improved digestion. Weight loss continues. A leaner, healthier body. Fewer cravings No need to count calories or macros. Food prep is easier than keto.
What are the negative effects of the Carnivore Diet?
It was a bit boring at first, but I quickly got used to it. It's less energy-rich than keto.
7) Do You Exercise on the Carnivore Diet? If so, how do you go about it and what are you doing?
Yes. I do bodyweight resistance circuit/Hiit Training and weightlifting 2-3 times per week. It usually takes 20-45 minutes.
What advice would you offer to someone who has been considering this diet but isn't ready to make the jump?
Understanding your motivation is important. Is it an elimination diet for ailments, digestive reset, or long-term body composition reason? You should try it for 30-60 days. You don't require fibre in your diet. You don't have to be a carnivore, it's not as restrictive as you might think. You can eat berries, dairy products, some vegetables, or even some meats depending on what your body tolerates.
9) Do You Think Carnivore Diet Will Ever Be Accepted As A Mainstream Diet?
No. The stigma is too strong and there's too much influence from regulatory bodies, celebrities, the food industry, etc. It's hard to find a lot of information on this subject, unless you have an open mind and are willing to do your own research. Environmental messages are often inaccurate and misleading. It is important to correct misconceptions about saturated fats and meat.
