Jarrett, I'm 24 and live in Virginia. I've been active all my life. I played sports as a child and even played DIII basketball at the University of Pittsburgh in Greensburg for four years. Even though my athletic career has ended, I continue to stay in shape by lifting weights.
What did you eat prior to Carnivore?
I used to eat like a normal person before becoming a carnivore. I didn't count calories or even think about what I put into my body. I always ate some type of vegetable at every meal, and after my workouts, I would drink large protein shakes with fruit, milk, and yogurt. I ate 3 meals and a snack a day.

Why did I choose Carnivore to try?
My friend told me about Shawn Baker. He made fun of his eating habits and workout routines, saying it was neither sustainable nor smart. Shawn's story intrigued me. My roommates were on a two-week European vacation, so I decided to give the all-meat diet a trial run for two weeks to see if it would produce any positive results. Note: I had never been on a ketogenic or low-carb diet before. I went straight from traditional eating to carnivore. I didn't experience any side-effects, such as the keto flu that some people get when they first start.

What is your personal approach to carnivores?
Carnivore is a new way of life for me. After 2 weeks I was a carnivore and there was no turning back. You can also expect to be pushed back by friends and family who will say you are crazy for only eating meat. It doesn't bother me, because the majority of people who say you are crazy don't know anything about this diet. They only hear "all you eat are meats" but I enjoy this lifestyle. I wish I had discovered it earlier. Intermittent fasting is another approach I've taken to this diet. I usually fast for 16 hrs and then have a 8 hr eating window.

What are the negative effects of diet?
It has now finally stopped. When I first started, I had some diarrhoea and my bowl movement was very frequent. After about 40 days, this stopped and bowl movements returned to normal.

Exercise on the Carnivore Diet?
I work out 6-7 times a week. I love the gym, and I go there every day. I also embrace the fact that I am improving myself when I ride the bike at 6am. I sometimes do cardio in the morning while fasting, then work out in the evening after work. Weight lifting, indoor cycling and battle ropes are often part of my workouts. Once a week, I play basketball in a rec league.

What advice would you offer someone who's interested in the diet but hasn’t made the jump yet?
Do some research to see if you can sustain this. Don't let the outside noise affect your process. Carnivore is a great lifestyle choice that offers endless benefits. It took me about two weeks to adjust and I've never thought of going back to the traditional diet. You should also drink water, black coffee and green tea.
