Fresh Air Retreat Recap

As I think of Austin, TX I am brought back to the time when I started my blog. In 2013, I went to PaleoFX in Austin for the first time. I met a lot of paleo bloggers there and began to really understand the business that I was building. In Austin, I met a publisher and learned how to monetize a business. I also made countless memories with my friends. These trips to Austin were a yearly event where I got to see my blogging friends, discuss business, be inspired by others and feel more motivated than ever to implement everything I had learned. When I heard that the Fresh Air Retreat would be held in Austin, Texas this year, I jumped at the opportunity to be involved.

The Fresh Air Retreat, a yearly event hosted in cities across the US by Liz Della Croce from The Lemon Bowl and Lauren Grier from The Curious Plate, is an annual retreat. The three-day event features 10+ bloggers and a variety of delicious meals prepared by Executive Chef Trimell Hawkins. There are also break-out sessions where different brands will be represented, as well as plenty of time to mix, learn, and ask questions. We all work for a young business, so we're constantly learning from one another. This is why retreats like these are important and helpful. You can learn from others and work together to reach a decision when you are working in a business. When you are working for yourself, you can sometimes feel isolated. This retreat will help you to learn new ways to improve your business.

We had the rare opportunity to meet brands at the retreat. The majority of interactions take place via email or zoom. It was so cool to be able to put a face on a brand, and learn more about their mission.

Dave’s Killer Breadwas the first brand we met. I knew a little about the brand, because I had heard a podcast where Dave shared his story of serving time in prison before creating a successful business. Dave's offers fluffy organic bread, while also giving back to the community through their Second Chance Employment program. This ensures that the right person for the job is hired, regardless of criminal background. Second chances are something I strongly believe in, and learning about Dave's has made me fall in love with the brand!

Zwilling has been a brand that I have known for many years. They were among the first knives that I bought when I started cooking on my own. I am sure you already have Zwilling items in your home, but you might not know it! Since so long, Zwilling has been a household name and is always working to improve their products. Fresh & Save Vacuum Storage Systems are a new product that allows you to vacuum seal food quickly and easily, and it will keep your food fresh for a longer period of time. This is done without the need for large vacuum sealers or bags. The Zwilling knife class was one of my favorite parts of the retreat, since I had never been taught how to use a knife properly. It was fun to discover all the different uses of each of their knives!

Flor de Cana has been in the family since 130 years. This Fair Trade and Carbon Neutral Certified Company creates jobs in the local community, takes care of its employees and gives back to the community. It was my first espresso martini, and it was delicious. This is the rum that I'll be trying to introduce to my MIL, who loves diet rum! This is the brand to support if you are going to drink rum!

Envy Appleswas a brand that we also got to know. When I shop at the supermarket, I tend to buy the same apples over and over again, so I miss out on some of my favorite crunchy, sweet apples. Envy apples have a great balance and are always crunchy. Chef Trimell prepared a multicourse dinner centered around apples. It was a great meal and made me want to bake my Apple Crumb Cheesecake, and Apple Dump Cake for the holidays.

Raptive has been a company with which I have worked for many years. They make the ads for my site, as well as a lot of other websites. Ads are not something I spend a lot of time on because as someone who isn't very detail-oriented, they don't really interest me. Raptive taught us a lot and allowed us to ask many questions. This session was amazing! I learned sooooooooo much.

The most enjoyable part of my trip was meeting so many women from different backgrounds. I fell in love with Madeline, from Mad About Food. She is so funny, smart and talented! She's so funny and talented! I wish I could spend every day with her. She taught me SO MUCH! Christina from The Whole Cook is another woman that's funny, personable and easy to get along with. Zainab, from A Classic Twist has a PhD and is a master baker. Perhaps I'd be better at cooking if I were a scientist. It was also great to get to know Mary from Mary's whole life. We discussed confidence and the daily changes that can be made to increase confidence over time. Addison, of Organically Addison, was the last person I met. She is one of my favorite women because she's always working to expand her business. OMG, I almost forgot about the person who I am closest to because I have known her since my first visit to Austin. Cassy from Fed & Fit. Cassy is a friend I've known for many years. She even brought a homemade cake to my baby shower and made a lot of mocktails. She is the most kind person I know. (Not even kidding) Her enthusiasm for growth and work inspires me constantly. I love her.

We had the best meal of our trip on the last night of our stay in Austin at Ciclo, the Four Seasons. Outside, they offer bottle service of Laurent-Perrier champagne. It was the best champagne I have ever tasted. As someone who does not drink alcohol, this is a big compliment. Their food is absolutely delicious, especially when you are sitting on the patio overlooking that river with all of those twinkling lights in the trees. I loved this spot so much.

Fresh Air Retreat is a real treat. I was excited to use the tools I learned at the retreat. I will be updating my website and writing new blog posts. I'm so excited for the future!

Amanda Kamppinen was the photographer of all the stunning photos taken at the retreat.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can I lose weight using paleo?

Without knowing more about your diet and past habits, it's difficult to predict how quickly you will lose weight. However, the Paleo-style diet has a high intake of protein, fibre, healthy fat and healthy cholesterol. This allows for greater satisfaction between meals and helps reduce calories. This makes it easier to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Also, cutting out refined grains and other refined carbohydrates will help with blood glucose control which can aid in weight loss. Regular exercise is essential for any weight loss program. The paleo diet can help you make lasting changes to your body composition if you adhere to the core principles.

In addition to a healthy diet and regular exercise, it is important to ensure that you are getting adequate rest and managing stress levels. Lack of sleep can lead to an increase in appetite and cravings for unhealthy food, and high levels stress can cause cortisol levels, which can lead to weight gain. Therefore, it is important to ensure that your lifestyle habits align with your weight loss goals.

Paleo: Is there any cheese allowed?

Absentmindedly, the temptation of cheese can often be too much to bear. But is it allowed on Paleo? Here's what you need to know - while there is no hard-and-fast rule, traditionally, cheese was not part of the Paleolithic diet due to its dairy content.

A moderate amount of good quality cheese may be sufficient if dairy avoidance is not your top priority. It all depends what you eat and how you react.

For instance, some individuals are highly lactose intolerant and should avoid dairy products or eat them only rarely and in small amounts. People who don't have lactose intolerance can tolerate small amounts of milk byproducts from sheep or goat.

You can enjoy dairy-free cheeses more often by choosing vegan alternatives such as almond or coconut cheeses. Such foods make it possible for those who follow a vegan lifestyle to still include some cheesy goodness in their diets without compromising their values or taste preferences!

What fruits are Paleo-friendly?

Fabulous! The Paleo Diet is an excellent place to start a health and nutrition journey. Paleo is a way to adapt your diet for foods that are available pre-agriculturally, such as seafood, lean meats, and fruit, vegetables, and nuts.

This way of eating helps reduce inflammation by removing processed foods, added sugars, and processed vegetable oils that wreak havoc on the body. Saying goodbye to these things also allows room for delicious, whole foods full of nutrients that strengthen your health.

Fruits are an important part of the Paleo diet because they provide vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C in oranges, strawberries, and manganese in bananas. Apples, pears and melons, as well as papayas, mangoes, melons and limes, are all other fruits. Each fruit is rich in antioxidants, which are essential for optimal performance.

In addition to adding fiber-rich fruits to meals and snacks every now and again throughout the day it's a good idea to try out different fruits in smoothies or treats made with dates or other dried fruit if you don't desire sugary desserts.

Making sure you eat enough nutrient rich fruits can help to curb your cravings and infuse your body with powerful antioxidants that will keep it healthy. Fruits can give you energy, but they don't have to be heavy. So get creative and combine fruits with other meals throughout the day.

Is paleo the most anti-inflammatory diet?

The age-old question of "Is paleo the best anti-inflammatory diet?" is being posed again. Recent research and studies indicate that the answer is yes. Whole, unprocessed foods are better for your health and well-being.

Paleo diets include a lot of fresh, wild fish, grass-fed proteins and organic vegetables and fruits. They also contain nuts and seeds, which provide vital vitamins, minerals, fiber, healthy fats, Omega 3 fats, and other important nutrients. C-reactive Proteins, which are known to be pro-inflammatory markers and associated with some chronic diseases, can be decreased through this diet.

Paleo diets are very effective at reducing systemic inflammation. Paleo has eliminated many inflammatory foods like gluten from wheat products and processed food. Some even report improvements in skin clarity after adopting a regular anti-inflammatory food lifestyle like Paleo.

Individuals can manage inflammation better by including light exercise into their paleo plan. The idea is to move without stressing the body too much that it begins to inflame. Exercise includes not only gym or workout sessions but also leisurely activities such as walking or yoga that keep one moving yet with little stress on the body.

A paleo diet can offer relief from intense chronic pain, whether you're looking for healthier alternatives to processed foods or want to make a lifestyle change. Combined with exercise, it can be a powerful way to fight existing inflammatory problems while keeping up with healthy habits for long-term success!

What are the benefits of the Paleo diet?

Paleo is a diet that emphasizes whole foods and unprocessed food. It has many health benefits. These include:

  • Healthy digestion: Regular intake of nutrient-dense and fibre-rich food can improve digestion.
  • Reduce inflammation: It is possible to avoid refined and processed foods.
  • Balanced blood sugar levels: Low-glycemic foods help to balance blood sugar and curb your cravings for sweet snacks.
  • Increased energy: Eating nutrient-dense foods can help to boost your energy levels and keep you energized throughout the day.
  • Paleo eating can lead to improved mental clarity and focus. It also reduces the risk of developing neurological conditions.
  • Paleo diet for weight loss: It is low in calories, and high in fibre.
  • Improved cardiovascular health: Healthy fats and lean proteins can help reduce the chance of developing heart diseases.
  • Reduction in the risk of chronic diseases

Which food group should be avoided on the Paleo diet

The dramatic health benefits of avoiding grains and legumes, dairy products, and processed foods are possible. Paleo is a popular diet.

Many people are unaware that certain food groups should be avoided in order to adhere to this diet. It is important to eliminate foods that contain grains, legumes and dairy.

This means giving up bread, pasta, pizzas chips, crackers, and baked goods such cookies, cakes, and pizzas. It is also important to cut back on dairy products, such as milk or cheese.

Finally, you should eliminate processed foods like canned soups or frozen meals from your daily eating plan. Your body will start to thrive if you eliminate hidden sources of unhealthy fats, empty calories, and refined carbs.

The Paleo diet is a great way to achieve your nutrition and health goals, while still enjoying delicious meals. It won't be hard!

How To

How do I start a paleo lifestyle?

Paleo is a way to live a healthier, happier lifestyle. It can be overwhelming. However, you don't need to feel intimidated or unsure. You can reap the many benefits of the ancestral approach quickly and easily with the right information.

It's possible to make a huge difference by making simple changes. Start by removing any processed or packaged foods containing sugar, wheat, corn, grains, dairy and trans fats from your diet. Next, start adding fresh fruits to your meals each day. Include healthy sources of protein like lean meats. You can also opt for wild-caught seafood as another nutrient-rich choice.

In addition to trying new recipes with lots of flavour and inspiration, remember that meal prepping is key - it will keep you motivated to stay on track during those busy days! Use YouTube channels, cooking blogs, books, apps, and other resources to get endless ideas for meals.

When it comes to any diet change, consistency is key. As long as you keep your focus on quality and not quantity, drink plenty of water throughout the day, exercise regularly, and drink lots of water, you will be successful. Paleo may look intimidating at first, but when done properly, it can help you achieve your ultimate nutrition goals.

Remember that Paleo is not a diet based on hunting-gatherer living, but it doesn't mean that you have to eat exactly the same food as your ancestors. Instead, eat whole foods, such as fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds and lean proteins. Include a wide variety of food types from each food group to ensure you have a varied diet. Finally, don't forget to listen to your body and adjust your diet as needed.
