What are some of the downsides to eating meat from plants?

The main problem of plant-based protein is the absence of essential vitamins. Plant-based meat is lower in certain essential amino acids, vitamin B12, and heme iron, all found in higher concentrations in animal protein sources. Additionally, some plant-based meats contain more sodium than real meat due to the abundant amount needed for preservation. Additionally, quality vegan products can be more expensive and take longer to get from online stores or grocery stores. When cooking times and food preparation are considered, vegan options may require more effort.


Can I Eat Meat on a Plant-Based Diet?

While plant-based diets don't allow for meat, fish or poultry, some food items can be made with limited animal products. People on a plant-based lifestyle can still eat eggs and dairy in moderation. For those looking to move to a plantbased diet, there are many options. Plant-based diets include fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes and lentils, whole grains like oatmeal and rice, as well as soybeans and lentils.

Most grocery stores will carry vegan products. Soy-based meats such as tofu, seitan (wheat gluten), tempeh (fermented soybeans), and mock duck made from mushrooms can all mimic the flavor and texture of traditional meat dishes. You can get a vegetarian burger made from black beans and quinoa, which are very similar to beef burgers.

There are plenty of plant-based substitutes available to those who do not want to sacrifice their carnivorous favorite foods. There are many vegan alternatives, including coconut bacon strips or eggplant bits; tofu mighto; veggie hotdogs made with seasoned and textured soy proteins; and faux chicken strips made of wheat gluten. Furthermore, while some processed forms of fermented fungi, like mushrooms, taste like something similar to steak or pork when cooked properly, they can have similar sensory properties as meat but with significantly less environmental impact due to their far lower water use when compared with livestock production. The best part about switching to a plantbased diet is that meat that was once consumed can be replaced by these alternatives.
