If you are new to the site, you should know that I do not eat spooky food on Halloween. It's absurd and unappetizing, I think. Instead, I came up with a nostalgic treat that is both kid- and adult-friendly. Who doesn't like cookies? !
Although these Halloween candy cookies sound and look strange, they're actually quite delicious! It's amazing how the extreme contrast between sweet, salty and sour cookie dough creates balance. You can customize them too. My sweet and savory versions have salty ruffled chips with vegan-friendly chocolate peanutbutter cups. But you can also use your favorite candy bars or a chocolate-covered caramel such as Cocomels. You can add whatever sweet treats to the candy version. I tried looking high and low for fuzzy peaches or cherry blasters, but they weren't there in the Halloween candy section. Maynard's candy is vegan-friendly because it doesn't contain gelatin. There are many other vegan gummies available on the market, so make sure to take your pick!
Have fun with this batch of whimsical cookies and act like a child again. For the love of God, forgo the jack-o'-lantern eating guacamole. Eek!
Halloween candy cookies
Ingredients
Cookie dough
- 2 3/4 C all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1 C salted butter of vegans, half-softened
- 1/2 C granulated sugar
- 1/2 C light brown sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 C unsweetened non-dairy milk
Chip and chocolate cookies
- 1 Vegan chocolate covered caramels, peanut butter cups, or chopped chocolate bars etc.
- 2 C plain ruffled chips, crushed
Sweet and sour candy cookies
- 2 C (300g), vegan gummy candy (such as fuzzy fruits, sour children, gummy bears, etc. )
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F

Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda in a large bowl. Set aside.

Use a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment to whip up fluffy vegan butter. Continue beating until the granulated sugar is incorporated and the brown sugar is smooth. This takes about 2 minutes. Add vanilla extract and non-dairy milk. Mix until combined.

Slowly add the dry ingredients, beating on low. After the dough is mostly incorporated, use a rubber spatula to stir in any mix-ins.

Use a cookie scoop to portion the cookies onto parchment-lined baking sheets. You can add additional toppings to the cookies if desired. Bake the cookies on the middle rack for 14-16 minutes or until they are light golden around the edges and bottom.
