When combined with legumes or grains, vegetables like spinach, kale, and broccoli are high in protein, they can provide adequate nutrition. Plant-based proteins have lower saturated fat than animal proteins. This is beneficial for maintaining long-term hunger between meals. Additional nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids can be added to plant-based diets through the addition of flaxseeds (chia seeds), walnuts, and hemp seeds.


Can I eat poultry on a plant-based food diet?

No, eating chicken on a plant-based diet is not possible. A plant-based diet eliminates all animal products, including meat, fish, and poultry. Many vegan options to traditional meat-centric dishes can be made without the use of animal products. For example, soy-based meats such as tofu, seitan (wheat gluten), tempeh (fermented soybeans), and mock duck made from mushrooms can mimic the flavor of traditional meats. Vegetarian vegetarian burgers made from black bean or quinoa taste just as good. Coconut bacon strips, eggplant bacon bits or tofu mighto; veggie hot dog made with seasoned and textured soy proteins; and faux poultry strips from wheat gluten are other tasty options.


Can I eat eggs on a plant-based diet?

No, eggs are not permissible on a plant-based diet. This diet bans the consumption of all animal products such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs and other animal products. There are many vegan options for traditional egg-centric dishes that have the same flavor and texture as eggs, but they don't rely on animal products. Tofu scrambles, omelets, and chickpea flour are excellent breakfast dishes that look and feel like eggs. However, they also contain plant-based proteins. You can use aquafaba (the liquid found inside a can chickpeas) to substitute eggs for vegan egg whites when making meringues. Non-vegan recipes can also be preserved without losing their flavor by using egg substituters such as flaxseed meal, chia seeds or chia seeds with water instead of one large egg.
