Vegan Banana Pudding

This vegan banana pudding is sure to be a hit! This pudding is rich and creamy, with layers that include vanilla wafers and vanilla pudding, as well as sliced bananas. It's easy to make, with only 7 ingredients!

The classic Southern dessert banana pudding contains a lot of dairy products, so it is not vegan friendly. The pudding is made with milk and topped with whipped cream. Some recipes call for eggs as well. You don't need to give up this old-fashioned favourite once you adopt a vegan diet. With a few simple substitutions, you can enjoy rich, creamy banana pudding at your home.

This is , just as the classic version. This version has layers of vanilla wafers, bananas, and a silky pudding with bananas on the bottom. The pudding softens the cookies, don't you think? Oh yes.

It's the perfect dessert for summer - cool, creamy and with a hint of tropical flavor. This dessert is also very easy to prepare, as it only requires 7 ingredients.

Notes on Ingredients

Scroll down the recipe card for the ingredients quantities and the recipe instructions.

  • Cook and Serve Vanilla Pudding Jell-O cook-and-serve pudding is both gluten-free, and vegan. 365 Everyday vanilla pudding also is vegan.
  • Cornstarch
  • Nondairy Milk You will want to use a plain, unsweetened version for this recipe.
  • Vanilla extract
  • Vegan Vanilla Wafers- Kinnikinnick wafers, which are both gluten-free vegan and 365 Everyday vanilla wafers.
  • Bananas
  • Vegan Whipping Cream -- A tub of whipped topping will do.

What prevents bananas from turning brown in Banana Pudding

is not a complete solution to prevent bananas from browning. The bananas in the middle should stay fresh for a couple of days. You can use bananas that are firm and just barely ripe to layer on top of the pudding. Brush them with orange juice or pineapple juice before adding the bananas. Orange and pineapple juices work well with banana pudding. Lemon juice also works.

If the bananas are browning, don't worry. They're still safe to eat.

How to make vegan banana pudding

This vegan banana pudding doesn't require any special skills. This vegan banana pudding is as easy as it gets!

Begin the pudding. In a small saucepan, whisk the non-dairy creamer, pudding mix and cornstarch. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble. Let the pudding cool down for a few moments after removing it from the heat.

Mash bananas. Place bananas in large bowls and coarsely mash. You can puree the bananas in a blender to get a smooth, creamy pudding.

Add vanilla extract to the pudding and add the bananas. Fold everything together.

Refrigerate. Cover with plastic wrap and press it to the surface of the pudding. This will prevent skin from developing. Refrigerate the pudding for up to two hours or until it is completely cooled.

Add half the whipped crème to the pudding.

Assembly. Pour 1/4 of the pudding in a 9x9 inch baking dish. Add wafers and slices of banana, half the remaining pudding and then another layer with cookies, bananas and pudding. Refrigerate for 4 hours or more.

Garnish the top and serve. If desired, add additional banana or cookie slices to the top before serving.

Success Tips

Here are some tips for making this vegan banana pudding perfect.

  • Choose ripe bananas that are still firm. Strike the perfect balance between soft, over-ripe bananas and firm, under-ripe bananas. Under-ripe and over-ripe will not add flavor. Choose bananas with a yellow color and no brown spots.
  • Cover bananas. Be sure to cover the bananas completely with the pudding.
  • Do not garnish your bananas until you are ready to serve. The wafers will stay crispy and fresh.

Variations

You can customize this vegan banana pud and make it your own. Here are some suggestions:

  • Replace vanilla wafers with graham crackers.
  • Replace some of the bananas with fresh berries, diced mango or a mixture.
  • Use coconut pudding in place of vanilla, and sprinkle toasted coconut on the top.

How to store leftovers

If you're not going to eat the entire banana pudding at once, store it in an airtight container for up to four days in the fridge.

Can this recipe be frozen?

This vegan banana dessert does not freeze very well. While you could freeze this banana pudding, it's texture and taste can change dramatically when frozen. It will only keep in the freezer for about a week.

Ingredients

  • 1 - 4.6 ounce pkg Cook & Serve Vanilla Pudding 130 grams
  • 3 Tablespoons Cornstarch 24 grams
  • 2 Cups Non-Dairy Milk 480 ml
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 10 ounces Vegan Vanilla Wafers 283 grams
  • 5-6 Bananas
  • 12 ounces Vegan Whipped Cream

Instructions

  • In a small pan, combine non-dairy creamer, pudding mix and the cornstarch. Mix until all the dry ingredients have been incorporated. Stir constantly over medium heat until the mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat, and let cool for a couple of minutes.
  • Two bananas should be mashed to a pulpy wet consistency. You can puree the bananas in a blender if you do not want any chunks.
  • Transfer the pudding into a large bowl. Add the vanilla and bananas. Fold the bananas and vanilla together.
  • Cover the pudding in plastic wrap, pressing the plastic against the surface of the pudding. This will prevent the formation of a skin. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until the pudding is completely cooled.
  • Remove the pudding from the fridge. Fold in half the whipped cream and add the remaining half to the pudding.
  • Start by assembling your banana pudding in a 9x9 baking pan. Begin by layering pudding (about a quarter of the total pudding), then cookies, and finally banana slices. Spread 1/2 of the remaining mixture over the banana layer, and then repeat the process with the cookies, bananas, and remaining pudding. To prevent the bananas from browning, make sure that the top layer of pudding completely covers them.
  • Refrigerate the food for up to 24 hours.
  • Decorate the top of the cake with any remaining whipped cream, and if desired, some extra cookies or bananas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat poultry on a plant-based food diet?

Yes, it is not possible to eat chicken while on a plant based diet. A plant-based lifestyle eliminates all animal product, including meat, poultry, and fish. Many vegan alternatives to traditionally meat-centric recipes offer the same flavor without using animal products. You can get the same flavor from soy-based proteins like seitan (wheat bread gluten), tempeh and mock duck made out of mushrooms. Vegetarian hamburgers made with black beans or quinoa can also be as good as beef burgers. Tofu mayo; coconut bacon strips or eggplant bacon bits; vegetable hot dogs made with seasoned texture soy protein; faux chicken strips of wheat gluten are all tasty alternatives.

You can still eat out at restaurants while following a plant-based lifestyle.

Many restaurants are now offering plant-based options on their menus. Many vegan restaurants are opening in larger cities and towns, offering delicious food options. You can also find vegetarian-friendly options in many mainstream restaurants. This means that you have plenty of opportunities to enjoy traditional cuisines while still following a plant-based diet. You can find recipes with vegetables or legumes, such as seitan, tempeh, and seitan. Incorporate vinegar and healthy oils instead of mayonnaise or dressings high in saturated fat. Don't be afraid to ask your server what items can be made vegan or have dairy substituted with coconut or almond milk.

For ideas on vegan recipes, you might want to research vegan cookbooks before you go. Many restaurants will accommodate guests who eat a plant-based diet. They will also do their best to meet your needs. You can enjoy eating out with a plant-based menu if you do your research and have some creativity.

Is it possible for a plant-based diet to help you lose weight?

Yes, it is possible to lose weight by eating a plant-based diet. Eating various fruits and vegetables, legumes and nuts, seeds, whole grains, and other plant-based proteins can provide enough volume to fill you up without adding extra calories from unhealthy fats or carbohydrates. A well-rounded vegan meal plan is usually low in saturated fat and cholesterol-containing foods like red meat and processed snacks that tend to add weight instead of take it away. Research suggests that a plant diet can boost metabolism and lower obesity risk factors, like inflammation. Incorporating healthy ingredients high in fiber and stopping the intake of unhealthy sugars, starches, white bread, and pasta can also further support weight loss while still providing important vitamins and minerals the body needs to stay healthy.

How can a plant based diet boost your health?

Many health benefits can be derived from a plant-based diet. There is a link between eating more plant-based foods, and less animal products, and a lower risk of developing certain chronic diseases, such as stroke, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, or certain types of cancer. Plant-based diets contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other beneficial compounds that can help protect against inflammation and oxidative damage. Due to the availability of dietary fiber, it has been proven that eating lots of fruits and vegetables, beans, legumes and legumes is beneficial. Dietary fiber feeds your stomach bacteria and maintains your digestive health. Plant-based meal plans are usually low in saturated fats, which may help improve cholesterol levels in the blood. Research suggests that a plant-based diet can reduce the symptoms of common mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. A combination of plant-based protein and healthy fats such as nuts or avocados can help you feel fuller for longer periods between meals.

What are some of the benefits of eating a plant-based diet

Plant-based diets can provide many benefits, including improved heart health and digestive health, higher energy levels, reduced stress hormones, greater environmental protection, and increased energy. Plant-based proteins include beans, legumes and whole grains. They also contain lower levels of saturated and fiber than animal protein. Plant-based foods are rich in vitamins, minerals as antioxidants and other beneficial compound that can help prevent damage to cells due to inflammation or oxidative injury. This can cause chronic illnesses such heart disease, cancer, and even death. A higher intake of fruits and vegetables may increase fiber intake. This can help feed the gut bacteria and improve digestion. Research has shown that a plant-based diet may improve moods by decreasing stress hormones. It is also becoming increasingly popular to avoid animal protein consumption in order to reduce environmental damage due to factory farming.

What are the drawbacks of meat made from plant-based sources?

Plant-based meat has the disadvantage of not having essential vitamins and minerals as animal proteins. The amount of essential amino acids found in plant-based meat, including vitamin B12 and hemo iron, is lower than those found in animal protein sources. Additionally, some plant-based meats contain more sodium than real meat due to the abundant amount needed for preservation. Also, it can be more difficult to find quality vegan products in grocery stores and online shops. Some vegan alternatives may also require more effort during meals when cooking times are taken into account, as well as potentially longer food preparation times.

Supplements are necessary when you eat a plant based diet.

While a healthy, balanced plant-based diet can provide all necessary nutrients for good health and well-being, you should supplement with certain micronutrients to correct any potential deficiencies. Vitamin B12 is critical for the health of the brain and nervous systems. Although it is only available from animals, supplemental forms may be beneficial to vegans or vegetarians. Iron and zinc are important minerals for healthy metabolism and red blood cell production, tissue development, and repair. Essential for normal body functions, like controlling inflammation and proper brain function, omega-3 fatty acids are also important. Due to their biochemical characteristics, most plant-based foods do not contain omega-3s. Supplementation can help maintain a delicate balance of this essential nutrient. Finally, calcium is important for strong bones. But it can also be found in small quantities through plants such as broccoli or kale. Consider taking separate supplements if you find it difficult to reach your daily calcium goal from food. It's always best to triple-check with your doctor before introducing new supplements.

How To

How do you meal prep for a plant-based diet

Plant-based meal prep makes it easy to prepare healthy and balanced vegan meals in advance. It takes planning and preparation but can help you save time and encourage healthier eating habits. Preparing plant-based meals ahead of time makes it easier for you to keep to your diet. You can have the food ready to go when you're hungry. Also, you can save time and make it easier to exercise or relax by not having the food prepared from scratch each day.

The key to successful plant-based meal prepping is prioritizing variety and emphasizing whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes. Different colors are better for nutrition. You might choose to use different ingredients each week, such as spinach for greens or purple carrots in orange/reds. Brown rice is good for complex carbohydrates. Each meal should contain a balance of fiber, protein, and some fats, depending on the person's needs.

Consider using a multi-cooker and slow cooker to maximize your meal prep efficiency.

You can easily prepare meals for a plant diet by following these simple steps. To get started, create a grocery list based on recipes you plan to make.
