Plant-based meat has the disadvantage of not having essential vitamins and minerals as animal proteins. Plant-based meat has lower levels of certain essential amino compounds, vitamin B12 and iron. Tofu, seitan (wheat flour), tempeh, fermented soybeans, and mock duck made of mushrooms can all mimic traditional meats. Vegetarian burgers made of black beans, quinoa and other legumes can be very similar to traditional beef burgers. You can also make tasty vegetarian burgers using coconut bacon strips, eggplant bacon bits, tofu mayo, and faux chicken strips made from wheat gluten.


Are there any athletes or celebrities who advocate a plant-based lifestyle?

There are many celebrities who support a plant diet. They include Kyrie Irving (NBA player), Lewis Hamilton (Formula 1 World Champion), Natalie Portman (actress), Meghan Trainor (singer) and Kenneth Farrow (NFL running back). Each of them have chosen the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle because it was best for them and have had impressive achievements in their respective fields, whether they are athletes or artists. Actress Alicia Silverstone even wrote a book titled Kind Diet, about her experiences with veganism. Novak Djokovic, a tennis professional, credits his achievements to his unusual eating style of eating primarily organic vegan food at competitions. His statistics have greatly improved since then. The four professional athletes all point out some notable qualities such as increased energy, quicker recovery from injuries and better overall health and well-being. Plant-based diets are a powerful tool to improve athleticism, as demonstrated by the success stories.


Is it possible to sustain a plant-based diet?

Because of their health and environmental benefits, plant-based diets are growing in popularity. Plant-based foods are more sustainable than those derived from animals. They also cause less pollution and emit fewer greenhouse gases. Plant-based food uses less resources than animal-derived products. Furthermore, animals raised in commercial farms often consume large amounts of water and land as well as fossil fuels. As some environmental effects of livestock production have been linked to global warming, reducing consumption of these foods through introducing more plant-based meals into one's weekly rotation could help reduce an individual's carbon footprint and support healthier, more eco-friendly practices.


Can I eat eggs while following a plant-based lifestyle?

On a plant-based lifestyle, eggs are not permitted. This diet completely eliminates any animal products like meat, poultry, fish, or eggs. Many vegan options exist for traditional egg-centric dishes, and they offer the same texture and flavor without using animal products. For example, tofu scrambles or omelets make great breakfast dishes with the same look and feel as eggs while providing plant-based protein; chickpea flour or mashed up banana can replace eggs as binding agents in baked goods; and aquafaba (the liquid found in a can of chickpeas) can act as a vegan egg white alternative when making meringues or other desserts. Additionally, egg replacers like flaxseed meal or chia seeds mixed with water substituted for one large egg can help keep non-vegan recipes intact without sacrificing taste.


Is a plant based diet the same thing as a vegan?

No. A plant-based eating plan is not the exact same as a vegan. A plant-based diet is an eating plan that focuses on mainly consuming fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds, and whole grains. This eating pattern generally reduces or eliminates animal products like meat and dairy. However, some animal proteins may still be consumed. Veganism on the other side is a ethical lifestyle choice.
