1) Tell us about yourself.
Melinda Appleby is 55 years old. She's a wife and mother of three grown children.
2) What did you eat prior to Carnivore?
In the 80s I was a vegetarian/vegan, then I switched to SAD until around 2000. Then I began the Atkins diet. I then alternated between SAD and Paleo until 2014, when I became a full-time carnivore.
Why did you first try Carnivore?
There were several reasons for my weight gain: joint pain, uncontrollable food cravings, insatiable hunger, and exhaustion. I would fall asleep during the day. I was a librarian at the time and worked in a maximum-security prison. I fell asleep in a room with 40 other inmates despite being alone. I thought it was my glycemic level fluctuating, and I only knew one way to control this - to eliminate carbs.
4) What is your personal approach to the Carnivore Diet?
I occasionally drink alcohol, drink coffee with heavy-cream and eat dairy. For special occasions I'll stray from my strict carnivore diet, but I usually suffer a lot so I don’t do it often.
I eat red meat 90% of the time. It is the only thing I eat that makes me feel satisfied and satiated.
I have hot flashes right now, so I supplement with vitamins and herbals to combat them. I will stay on them for one month, then reassess.
What are the benefits you have seen since beginning your Carnivore Diet?
No more afternoon slump.
I no longer crave food or eat as much (I used think about it nonstop).
No more cooking for hours on end.
The 30 year struggle with Tinea Versicolor is over.
My skin is as soft as a baby’s bottom.
I have never had body odour.
Lost ~30 lbs. I am 5'2" - I was 158 lbs at my highest, and now I weigh 125.
The symptoms of fibromyalgia have almost completely disappeared.
What are the negatives of the Carnivore Diet?
No, not really. I get diarrhoea if I eat too much.
7) Do You Exercise on the Carnivore Diet? If so, how do you go about it and what are you doing?
I've always been active. Hiking, skiing, and on-and-off-again running since high school. My last half-marathon was in May. I have stopped long distance running because it is too time-consuming, and my body doesn't like or need the extended cardio exercise. Now I'm focusing on upper body strength.
What advice would you offer to someone who has been considering this diet but isn't ready to make the jump?
You can do it your way. Some people need to start slowly, while others have to jump in with both feet. It doesn't matter which way you go, as long as you stay focused on the benefits of eating meat. If you give it a chance, this is the ultimate elimination.
9) Do You Think Carnivore Diet Will Ever Be Accepted As A Mainstream Diet?
People believe in the narrative and propaganda that is being promoted by our government and media.

Lies are spread when veganism claims to be a healthy eating plan. It is a falsehood to claim that red meat causes health problems. There is truth out there. It must be pursued.

It might seem hard initially to adhere strictly to this limit of carbs, but it will get easier as you become more comfortable with it.
