1. Introduce yourself.
Lisa Alex Gray is my name. I am 54 years old, and have been following the carnivore lifestyle for just over a year.
2) What did you eat prior to Carnivore?
Before starting the carnivore lifestyle, I had been eating a paleo diet for nearly a decade. The diet consisted of salads, meats, fish, and vegetables. Only a few squares of dark-colored chocolate were consumed as sugar.
Why did you first try Carnivore?
I was struggling with some health problems that no matter how hard I tried, I could not resolve. These included a lifetime battle with stomach ulcers, digestive issues, terrible allergies, two bouts of frozen shoulder within three years, as well as fatigue.
After hearing the Joe Rogan Show with Dr Shawn Baker, my son introduced me to the show and we decided to both try the diet.
4) What is your personal approach to the Carnivore Diet?
I eat mostly beef (steak, fatty ground meat, and seafood), but also some liver sausage and hard cheese. I drink mostly water. Every once in a while, I add lemon to it. I also have Zevia on occasion. No sugar, no coffee (unless you're desperate, in which case a small Lindt White Chocolate square will do). I do not eat dark chocolate or any other form of oxalates. Overall, I rarely crave sugar. If I do, eating more fat usually makes the craving disappear.
5) Tell us about the benefits you have seen since beginning your Carnivore Diet.
I have no allergies anymore (100% gone!) My stomach ulcers are healed (finally), and my digestive tract is happy. I was getting frozen shoulders for the third time, but when I stopped eating oxalates (dark chocolate, almonds), the frozen shoulder reversed and my energy levels skyrocketed. I sleep like a newborn.
6) Have you noticed any negative effects of the Carnivore Diet?
I can't really think of anything. The oxalates I removed from my diet led to oxalate dump, which caused digestive issues, body aches and intense itching. But it was worth it when you consider the benefits.
7) How do you exercise when you are on the Carnivore Diet?
I worked out before and after the carnivore dieting. I exercise about 4 to 6 times per week in my garage using free weights. I work out for no more than twenty minutes. I stretch and play around in my yoga hammock.
8) How would you advise someone who has been considering this diet but is not ready to take the plunge?
Reduce the other foods in your diet and only eat from the animal kingdom. Continue to reduce the amount of other foods you eat and increase the number of animal-based choices. You can start small and see how you feel. Each person is unique, even in terms of what they are able to eat. Try something and see how it makes you feel.
It is an excellent elimination diet. This diet helps you to see which foods bother you. I cannot eat yogurt with cream or soft cheese. My husband can. When I do, I feel bad. All of us have different opinions.
9) Will Carnivore ever be accepted by the mainstream?
I believe diets are like shiny objects. I think this diet will last a long time, just like other successful choices. This way of eating will also be a game changer for people who are sensitive to anti-nutrients in plants. I cannot imagine eating differently, and I do not want to.
I and others who have tried this eating style know that food is medicine when it is chosen correctly.
