Introduce yourself.

Jen is my name, and I'm a carboholic.

2) What did you eat prior to Carnivore?

Since I can recall, I've been on diets. I have tried many diets, including the mayo clinic, Weight Watchers and Low Calorie, Atkins, and Keto. I lost a lot of weight with the Atkins and Keto plans, but my favorite foods were the faux breads or acceptable desserts. When I was not on these diets, I ate what I wanted, including Starbucks sugary coffees, pizza at dinner, fast food at lunch, etc.

3) Why did Carnivore appeal to you?

While searching for more keto recipes, I came across an article that said Kelly Hogan ate only meat. I became intrigued and began to dig. I found a lot of information about people who were doing the same thing, like Dr. Shawn Baker. It was logical to eliminate even the acceptable sweets, since I had a sugar problem. There are so many different recipes when you do keto and I wanted something simple. It seemed like an excellent idea to cook meat. No weird spices, powders or gadgets. Why not? I've tried everything to lose weight.

How do you personally approach a Carnivore Diet?

Meat, eggs, salt and black coffee with water are my favorites. But I won't lie. I like to have cream in my coffee, and cheese as a snack. When I eat dairy, my weight loss stops and I feel bloated.

5) What are the benefits you have seen since beginning your Carnivore Diet?

I've been losing weight. As of this morning, I've lost 70lbs since October last year. This is incredible. I have a long way to go, but it's amazing. My knee pain is gone. Now I don't have to suffer when I climb stairs. I am sleeping better and needing less sleep. It's a little annoying that I wake up earlier than my alarm. I don't crave sugar anymore and can pass it easily. At my niece's recent wedding, everyone offered me cookies and cake to celebrate. I didn't want any of it. This is a big victory, especially because it was my favourite type of cake. I've also learned to recognize true hunger and to listen to my own body.

What are the negatives of the Carnivore Diet?

There are no negatives for me. I have to check online menus before taking friends or family out to dinner. They are generally supportive and choose restaurants that offer at least one meat-free option. Some people don't seem to be as supportive. They try to convince me to only eat a small amount of something, or say that it's not healthy. But these people are often unhealthy. I've learned to ignore it.

7) Do You Exercise on the Carnivore Diet? If so, how do you go about it?

I don't follow a daily routine of exercise. I try to get some steps in while at work, and go on walks when the weather is nice. I have a kettlebell that I occasionally use, but not regularly.

What advice would you offer to someone who has been considering this diet but isn't ready to make the jump?

I'd guess that those who are interested in this eating style are either trying to lose weight, like me, and/or have health problems that are preventing them. I'd say to take the plunge and give it a try. This might be the solution that works for you. Try to stick with it for some time and do so wholeheartedly. You will begin to listen to your body and change your mindset.

9) Do You Think Carnivore Diet Will Ever Be Accepted As A Mainstream Diet?

Sadly, no. I believe that the major food companies like Kelloggs and pharmaceutical companies will use scare tactics to prevent this from becoming mainstream. If it happened, they would lose a great deal of money. Most doctors, including mine, only follow what they're taught and refuse to consider alternative methods. My own doctor refused to even read about it. They'll keep prescribing drugs instead of nutrition.
