Keto Yogurt - Instant Pot Recipe

Are you ready to make the best Keto yogurt? This recipe is sure to become your favorite for a low-carb, homemade breakfast. You only need a few ingredients and an Instant Pot with a Yogurt button.

I love yogurt for breakfast. You can enjoy it with anything from keto smoothies to fresh strawberries and keto granola.

You can't get enough!

In the past, I made a recipe for low-carb yogurt that closely followed the stricter guidelines of keto.

Check it out if you're in that stage of your keto lifestyle. It's delicious, and even though it may seem a bit unorthodox, the recipe works.

The low-carb lifestyle is becoming more popular, and "rules", while still being very restrictive, are now more relaxed. I thought it was about time to refresh the recipe with something that was delicious but also a little more traditional.

There are now more ways to enjoy yogurt as a breakfast for a low-carb lifestyle.

This recipe is a winner

  • Low carbohydrate, tasty, and filling. It's also easier on the wallet. You can get a lot of yogurt by making your own at home for a fraction the price.
  • Easy to customize. You can customize your yogurt to taste. Add anything you want, from sugar-free chocolate chips to sliced fruit.
  • Set it and forget about it. After you have poured the ingredients into your Instant Pot, all you need to do is press the button and it will take care of the rest.

Ingredients

Ingredients for this instant pot cold yogurt are very simple. You only need:

Ultra-filtered and ultra-pasteurized- I use Fairlife Whole Milk (comes with the red bottles). It is lactose-free and has 6 grams per serving of carbs. Use any brand as long as it is ultra-pasteurized and ultra-filtered.

Regular milk will not work with the cold start yogurt method .

Yogurt Starter -- You are looking for high-quality plain yogurt with active cultures. Verify the ingredients on the back of the label. It's only a tiny amount, but this is what makes yogurt work. I use full-fat greek yogurt, like Fage 5%, or Oui French-style.

Recently, I have found that Fage yogurt is tangier than Oui. You can experiment with it if you like.

Sweetener I prefer liquid splenda. It's the only sweetener that I use in my coffee. It's the best sweetener for me and it doesn't affect my stomach like some other sweeteners have. It's a matter of personal taste.

You can also use liquid monkfruit as a sweetener. It is easier to mix liquid sweeteners into each bowl when they are in liquid form. It is not necessary to use sweetener.

Keto Yogurt Instant Pot Recipe

Are you ready to make the best Keto yogurt? This Instant Pot breakfast recipe is sure to become your favorite for a low-carb, homemade, and delicious breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups ultra-filtered, ultra pasteurized milk
  • Fresh yogurt, 2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Pour the milk into the inner pot. Stir in the starter until everything is combined. The mixture will bubble up from the whisking but settle down as it cooks. This is perfectly normal.
  2. Put a lid made of tempered clear glass on your Instant Pot. Press the yogurt button, and set the timer for 9 hours.
  3. Remove the inner pot from the Instant Pot when it beeps, and the display shows 9:30. Place the innerpot on a counter that is heat-safe. Remove the lid. If you tilt the pot, the yogurt should be smooth and easily pull away from the sides.
  4. Place the pot in the refrigerator for 8 hours or until it is fully chilled.
  5. Pour your serving in a bowl, and add your liquid sweetener to your taste. Add any other garnish you like.

Notes

Fairlife Whole Milk is my favorite. Fairlife Whole Milk is my favorite. Ultra-pasteurized is not the exact same thing as just ultra-filtered. Choose a milk which is both.

Make sure that the yogurt you use is fresh and has live cultures.

Incubate the yogurt for 8 hours or 10 hours. My personal favourite is 9 hours. It's just right for me. Play around with different batches and find your favorite.

If your yogurt is done, a spoon should stand upright in the middle of the pot. You'll know if it is thick enough when a teaspoon can stand up in the center of the pot without tilting.

Keep the yogurt covered in the refrigerator for up to five days.

How to make keto-friendly yogurt step-by-step

Making cold-start yogurt with the Instant Pot is really easy. The process is as simple as mixing all the ingredients and setting the timer.

Step 1 Pour the milk into your Instant Pot inner pot. Stir in the starter and mix until fully combined. The mixture will bubble up from the whisking but settle down as it cooks. This is perfectly normal.

Step 3: Attach a lid made of tempered clear glass to the Instant Pot. Press the yogurt button, and set the timer for 9 hours.

It's also possible to do 8 hours, 10 hours or 12 hours. However, 9 hours is my favorite because I find it the perfect amount of tartness. Play around with different batches and find your favorite.

Step 4: Since this is a cold-start yogurt, you do not need to use any of the buttons. Now the display will start counting up. The display will sound a beep at 9:00.

Step 5: Remove and put the inner pot on a counter that is heat-safe. Remove the lid. If you tilt the pot, the yogurt should be smooth and easily pull away from the sides.

Step 6: Place the plastic on the top of the pot. Then, place it in the refrigerator for 8 hours to chill the entire thing.

A teaspoon in the middle of the pot should not tilt when it is ready. You'll know if it is thick enough when a teaspoon can stand up in the middle of the pot without tilting.

Step 6 Spoon your serving into a large bowl, and add your liquid sweetener to your taste. Add any other garnish you like.

Keep the yogurt covered in the refrigerator for up to five days.

Is yogurt keto-friendly?

People define the keto lifestyle differently.

Keto dieters may limit their carb intake to 20 grams per day. Nothing is off-limits, not even a small portion of a chocolate bar with full sugar.

Some people avoid fruits and veggies because they believe that these foods are too high in carbohydrates.

Some people even enjoy the occasional tortilla or wheat-based bread, figuring that as long their body is in ketosis they are good to go.

I won't tell anyone that their keto diet is incorrect.

I have come to accept that low carbohydrate eating can be done in many different ways.

Others see significant weight loss and huge success with things I wouldn't choose to do.

It doesn't matter to me, because it's not mine, but theirs.

I will not stand in anyone's way to achieve their goals the way they feel is best for them.

You might like this recipe or you may not. It doesn't matter which way you choose.

This yogurt is keto-friendly if you only look at the nutrition label. It has no added sugar, except for naturally occurring sugars in milk.

Sprinkle roasted nuts, or my personal favourite, whipped cream, to make this dish rich in fat.

Keto yogurts available in stores

Since keto became popular, a variety of low-carb keto yogurts have been introduced. This was not available when I started my keto diet. Now, you can find keto yogurt at your local Walmart.

The most popular brands of keto yogurt include:

Yogurt Keto Friendly Ratio

This yogurt contains Sucralose which may or not affect how you practice your keto diet. This yogurt has a better balance of macronutrients for low-carb diets.

This is a great option for those who are more concerned about macros. It contains 15g of fat and 15g of proteins, with only 2g of net carbs.

Two Good Greek Yogurt

Two Good yogurt is low-carb and low-fat. It is available in many flavors, and has a more traditional yogurt consistency.

It is easy to find this yogurt in the main yogurt section of most supermarkets. The label is a bit more complicated than other yogurts, which may be a turn-off for some. However, if you want a tasty snack and a quick option, Two Good can still deliver.

Chobani Zero [TAG191] Yogurt

Chobani Zero Sugar yogurt is also low-carb and high in protein. Chobani Zero Sugar is not my favorite but if you are a Chobani fan, you may enjoy it too.

There are many flavors available. It is not as thick or creamy as Fage.

Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt

This is a great option if you enjoy flavored Greek yogurt. If you can't make your own yogurt, you can use the flavored ones.

Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt is low in fat, but that shouldn't deter you. If the products are high-quality, you don't need to avoid them.

Use low-fat foods to fill up your macros of protein. If you need more fat, add some whipped cream.

Fage Total 5% Greek Yogurt

When I don't have time to make my own Greek yogurt, this is what I buy. It is super thick and creamy, with just the right amount of tang. The moderate amount of protein makes it more filling.

I prefer 5% because of the texture, taste, and slightly higher content of fat. You can try 0% or 2% to see if they suit your taste better. Try the natural dairy section if you cannot find Fage in your regular yogurt section.

How long does it takes to make keto yogurt using the Instant Pot?

I have had the most success by letting the yogurt simmer for nine hours. I do not like to leave the instant pot running overnight. I prefer to start my yogurt in the morning, and let it run for the entire day.

You'll need to wait a long time for the yogurt to cool, so if you begin this recipe Monday morning, you can enjoy it as early as Tuesday for breakfast.

This delicious yogurt is low-carb and very cost effective!

Is it safe to consume cold-start yogurt?

The Instant Pot's Yogurt function works by heating the yogurt up to a temperature that is safe (approximately 115 degrees Fahrenheit) to allow the active cultures to expand and grow, and then keeping it at the same temperature over several hours using a method called "incubation."

Yogurt makers often boil milk before incubating. The temperature is then raised to 180 degreesF in order to kill bacteria.

Cold Start Yogurt can be made with ultra-filtered (heated to 280 degreesF) milk. This is because 99.9% bacteria have been removed.

For the sake of food security, you should always do your own research, and use appropriate precautions when cooking any type of food, including this Instant Pot Yogurt recipe.

Can I make different flavors?

Absolutely! There are a variety of flavors to choose from if you don't like plain yogurt.

You can either:

1) Whip in a low-carb coffee creamer prior to incubating the yogurt. You only need 3/4-1 cup depending on how much flavoring you want.

Add flavorful toppings such as sweeteners or fresh fruits just before serving.

Here are some ideas:

  • Strawberry
  • Salted Caramel
  • Blueberry
  • Chocolate Chip
  • Flavor extracts. Vanilla is a classic. Cake Batter Extract is my favorite to make it taste more like dessert.
  • Roasted nuts, such as walnuts or pecans.

You can choose from a wide variety of toppings and flavors. Just do what you enjoy!

How to store

Your homemade keto-yogurt should stay fresh in the fridge for around 5 days. Since I'm being completely honest, my yogurt has never lasted longer than 5 days! Cover it with an airtight container.

This keto yogurt is made with simple ingredients, and the nutrition facts were also easy to calculate. This recipe yields about 6 cups yogurt. If you set each serving to 1 cup, it's approximately:
