Are high sodium levels dangerous?

Hypertension is a topic that we hear a lot about.

However, it is true that many people who are active or eat low carb are low in sodium.

Signs of dehydration

Are you dehydrated? It used to happen to me often. It would happen to me often.

These are additional signs that you might be suffering from dehydration.

  • Headache
  • Dry Mouth
  • Muscle Cramps
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • A loss of appetite (may be accompanied sugar cravings).
  • Low blood pressure

Hydration of LMNT

Hydration does not mean drinking a lot of water. I consume twelve 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

Hydration also involves how to rehydrate effectively.

LMNT Electrolytes

Above is a shot of my sodium levels from my lab results. It shows that I was either suffering from mild hyponatremia, or a slight sodium deficiency.

Living at high altitude, I make it a habit of drinking lots of water and staying hydrated. Problem is, I can become dehydrated and dilute my electrolytes.

Hyponatremia (low sodium) can cause adverse effects on hormones and brain function.

A sodium deficiency can pose a serious problem for athletes and those who eat low carb.

In the past decade, I have enjoyed an 18/6 intermittent fasting pattern every now and again. A 16-hour fast with an 8-hour eating window is a great way of detoxing without having to do a multiday fast.

This short fast allows me to stop eating after dinner and sleep for nine hours. Then, I skip breakfast the next morning.

When I feel extremely thirsty, I make an electrolyte beverage using LMNT. I fast until lunch to rehydrate.
