1. The Best Chef's Knife
Did you know that most kitchen knives accidents are caused by dull knives? Sharper knives are less likely to cut into your fingers.
This is a mistake I've been making for years. I bought a big knife set thinking the more knives the better. In reality, having more knives can lead to more problems.
All you need for 98% of your chopping, mincing and dicing is a great chef's blade that will last you a life time (provided you take care of it and regularly sharpen it). You'll be golden with a well-maintained chef's blade and a serrated knife for bread.
2. Quality Cutting Board
All too often, I see my friends using flimsy cutting boards made of plastic or boards that are way too small. A large, high-quality cutting board is worth the investment every time you cook in the kitchen - which I hope to be almost everyday!
3. Nut Milk Bag
First, let me say that I do not always make my plant milk. This bag comes in handy when I make my own plant milk. It's great for making almond or cashewmilk. This is a great way to make celery juice if you don't want to wash your juicer each morning or don't own one. Blend the stalks and water together, then strain with a bag. Voila! Fresh celery juice.
4. Blender High-Powered
If you only have a standard mixer, that's fine. The power of a high powered blender such as a Vitamix, or Blendtec can't be underestimated. They are faster and more powerful, and can handle even the toughest ingredients such as nuts and thick sauces. These are great for smoothies and homemade nut milk. They can also be used to make vegan cheese sauces.
I've personally used both Blendtec and Vitamix, and prefer Vitamix by a significant margin. The Vitamix has a tamper, which is a large wand you can use to get things going. This is particularly useful when blending thick foods, such as frozen bananas to make banana soft-serve. You can save money by buying certified refurbished products.
5. Food Processor
I use my food processer to make thick dips such as hummus or spinach artichoke (I use an incredible recipe from Chloe's Kitchen, my favorite vegan book). It is also used to make banana soft-serve without any milk and does it better than my Blendtec.
It also comes with a shredder and slicing attachment, which I use for my DIY salad bar. Some food processors are very expensive, but mine is a cheaper model that has worked well for me for many years. There's no need to go overboard.
6. Instant Pot Pressure Cooker
Bye-bye slow cookers and rice cookers. You don't need them anymore when you can use a pressure cook, which does the same thing in a much faster manner.
I wrote a whole article about how everyone should own a pressure cooker. I use my pressure cooker every week to cook staples such as rice, beans and lentils. It's one of my favorite vegan kitchen tools!
7. Mason Jars with Wide Mouths
Allison, a friend of mine, introduced me to wide-mouthed mason jars. I bought a 12-pack of wide-mouth mason jars years ago, and I am about to buy more as I use them now for everything! These days, I purchase most of my pantry items from bulk bins because they are cheaper and reduce plastic waste. I then store them in mason jars. These jars are also great for storing leftover soup, homemade nut-milk, and more. It's important to have a wide mouth because it makes them easy to clean.
8. Silicone Baking Mats
The silicone baking mats have been a great invention. You can roast vegetables without oil, bake cookies and do other things without your pans sticking. These mats are still in great shape after 4+ years.
9. Non-stick Saute Pan
Just recently, I learned what a Saute Pan is and I feel I cannot live without it. Saute pans are made with tall straight sides to prevent spills. They're great for cooking vegetables, scrambling tofu, or making pasta sauce. And beyond.
10. Great Vegan Cookbooks
Ahhh, vegan cookbooks. My main source of inspiration for cooking. there are thousands to choose from, with more being created every month. Here are some of my favorites.
My cookbook, The Friendly Vegan Cookbook, is one I'm proud to recommend. I wrote it with the idea of gifting in my mind. This book is perfect for those who want to try some vegan food and would make a wonderful addition to any vegan bookshelf.
11. Capresso Milk Frother
A milk frother can help you improve your morning coffee experience if you are a coffee lover. This little tool will heat up and froth plant milk to transform bland coffee into a luxurious latté experience. The original WestSoy froths the best. Starbucks, move over!
12. Trusty Waffle Iron
Because...waffles! What would life be without the occasional waffle weekend. My favorite waffle recipe is featured in a video from The Joy of Vegan Baking - one of my recommended cookbooks!
13. Convenient Composter
Check out the Lomi Electric Kitchen Composter if you are interested in composting. If you don't have access to a garden, or a composting service in your city, this is a great addition to your collection. It's super cool and does an amazing job!

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens when I stop eating pork?
There are many changes that will occur when you give up meat. Your diet will likely be richer in fiber and less saturated fat as you move from animal-based protein to plant-based proteins like legumes, beans and whole grains. This change can improve heart health and benefit overall digestive health. Due to better digestion and the elimination inflammatory foods such as animal proteins, you might experience an increase in energy. Your moods may become more stable as you reduce stress hormones that are already activated by eating animal protein. The trend towards a plant-based diet is also gaining popularity to counter the environmental damage that factory farming has caused.
Can a plant based diet be dangerous?
Although many people have seen health benefits from a plant-based diet in the past, it is important to understand that any diet can be dangerous if it is not properly managed or with the help of a professional. People who want to transition to a plantbased lifestyle need to be mindful of their vitamin and mineral intake. Eating an unbalanced diet without replacements for these substances can cause deficiencies and negative health impacts. Living a vegan or plant-based lifestyle could also mean you cut out dairy and eggs. This can cause muscle damage. Plant-based people should adjust their diets to suit their individual needs, consult a nutritionist, and avoid potential health hazards.
How can you replace meat with a plant-based diet
Replacing meat in a plant-based diet can be done through inventive vegan substitutes. Tofu and seitan (wheat Gluten), tempeh or fermented soybeans can mimic traditional meats. Vegetarian burgers made of black beans, quinoa and other legumes can be just as tasty as traditional beef burgers. You can also make tasty vegan alternatives using tofu mayo, coconut bacon strips, or eggplant bacon bits, and veggie hot dogs with seasoned texture soy protein. Also, faux chicken strips made of wheat gluten are delicious options. Recipes can be altered to include fruits and vegetables as well. There are many other ways to enjoy plant based meals, including roasting, baking, and steaming.
Can I eat eggs if I follow a plant-based diet
Yes, eggs are not permitted on a plant based diet. This diet excludes meat, fish and poultry as well as eggs. However, several vegan substitutes for traditionally egg-centric dishes offer similar flavor and texture without relying on animal products. Tofu scrambles, omelets, and chickpea flour are excellent breakfast dishes that look and feel like eggs. However, they also contain plant-based proteins. You can use aquafaba (the liquid found inside a can chickpeas) to substitute eggs for vegan egg whites when making meringues. Flaxseed meal and chia seeds can be used to replace one large egg in non-vegan recipes without compromising taste.
Can a plant diet help reduce the risk for chronic diseases?
Due to its numerous health and environmental advantages, the plant-based diet has gained popularity in today's world. This diet consists of eating mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes as well as nuts and seeds. It also eliminates or substantially reduces animal protein such as meat and dairy products. There are many benefits to a plant-based approach to eating, such as improved heart health and digestive health, energy levels, decreased stress hormones, potential environmental protection, and increased energy. A plant-based diet can provide enough protein. There are many excellent alternatives to protein.

How to manage social situations on a plant-based diet
It is not easy to transition to a plant based diet. You will need to manage social situations like dining out with your friends. Before you go out to eat, make sure you are aware of the options. Verify the restaurant's vegan policies before you go.
Talk to your friends and family about vegan options. This will help you avoid ordering errors at the restaurant, as well as avoiding awkward explanations or misinterpretations about your dietary restrictions. Have faith in the chef by trusting their judgment when crafting vegan dishes; chat with them if necessary so that they can better understand how to accommodate your needs best.
When attending events or parties where not everyone is familiar with vegan diets, be sure to fill up beforehand on nutritious snacks or drinks available without animal products - any contribution goes a long way! When your vegan relatives start to incorporate vegan recipes, be sure to acknowledge even the smallest gestures.
Although it may be challenging at first, it is possible to manage social situations while adhering to a vegan lifestyle. It becomes second-nature over time. So start small and have faith!
