Green Juice
Equipment
-
Cold press juicer
Ingredients
- 5-10 stalks lacinato kale*
- 5-6 ribs celery
- 1" piece ginger
- 1/3 medium pineapple
- 2 green apple
- handful mint leaves fresh
- 1 large cucumber or 6-7 mini persian cucumbers
- 2-3 lemon
Instructions
-
Prepare a large bowl and wash and dry your fruits and vegetables.
-
Cut celery, kale and cucumber into pieces that are about 2-3" (or smaller depending on the size of your juicer). Remove the skin from the pineapple, and then cut it into pieces. Peel ginger, and then cut it into small pieces. Apples should be cut into pieces around the core. Finally, lemon should be cut into small pieces. If your juicer is capable, you can leave the skin on.
-
Taste and adjust the juicer after adding all ingredients. Increase the pineapple or apple to get more sweetness. For more brightness, add more lemon. Add more ginger to add spice or reduce sweetness. Try adjusting the quantities until you find a ratio that suits your taste.
-
Store immediately in an airtight container for up to three days in the fridge. However, it is best to consume earlier for maximum nutrition retention.
Notes
- It is possible that some juicers have difficulty breaking down the kale leaves and small pieces can bypass the filter. If this happens, and it bothers you, strain the juice before drinking.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are some of the best sources for protein on a plant based diet?
There are many great sources of protein in a plant-based diet. Many plant-based protein sources provide fiber along with essential micronutrients, such as vitamins or minerals. Adding omega-3 fatty acids in things like flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, or hemp seeds can help balance nutrient levels on a plant-based diet.
Supplements are necessary when you eat a plant based diet.
While a healthy, balanced plant-based diet can provide all necessary nutrients for good health and well-being, you should supplement with certain micronutrients to correct any potential deficiencies. Vitamin B12 is critical for the health of the brain and nervous systems. Although it is only available from animals, supplemental forms may be beneficial to vegans or vegetarians. Many foods based on plants lack sufficient iron and zinc. These minerals are essential for healthy metabolism, red cell production, tissue growth and repair, as well as healthy metabolism. Essential for normal body functions, like controlling inflammation and proper brain function, omega-3 fatty acids are also important. Most plant-based food sources do not contain omega-3s due to their biochemical properties: supplementation may help ensure a delicate balance of this vital nutrient. Last but not least, calcium is vital for maintaining strong bones. It can also be found in limited quantities through vegetables like broccoli and kale. You may want to supplement your diet if you have difficulty meeting your daily calcium requirements. It's always best to triple-check with your doctor before introducing new supplements.
Is it difficult to switch to a plant-based diet?
Changing to a plant-based diet may feel intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. You can easily transition to a plant based diet by making small tweaks. Since each person's needs are unique, tailoring the transition to one's specific lifestyle is important. It is important to plan meals around whole foods and not processed food to facilitate the transition. This will ensure that you get enough macronutrients, essential vitamins, and minerals. It is also beneficial to focus on creating healthy, delicious meals that meet your dietary needs.
Individuals can make it easier to stay focused on their goals of a transition to a plant-based diet by creating a support network made up of family members, friends, and certified health professionals. Finally, cooking new recipes can add variety and excitement along the way. Many delicious vegan recipes are available to ensure that you don't feel deprived or bored while making this lifestyle change. A successful journey to plant-based living can be achieved by slowly changing your diet while paying attention to your daily nutrient intake.
What are the drawbacks of meat made from plant-based sources?
The main problem with plant-based meat is its lack of essential vitamins or minerals. Plant-based meat is lower in certain essential amino acids, vitamin B12, and heme iron, all found in higher concentrations in animal protein sources. Plant-based meats can have more sodium that real meat because of the preservation. Furthermore, purchasing quality vegan products from grocery stores or online outlets can be more expensive and time-consuming. If you consider the cooking time of vegan products, some may need more effort and take longer to prepare.
Can a Plant-Based Diet Help You Lose Weight?
Yes, you can lose weight with a plant-based lifestyle. Eating a variety fruits and veggies, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds and other plant-based foods can help you feel full, without the need to consume extra calories or unhealthy fats. A well-rounded vegan meal plan is usually low in saturated fat and cholesterol-containing foods like red meat and processed snacks that tend to add weight instead of take it away. Research has shown that a plant-based diet can increase metabolism and reduce the risk of obesity. Healthy ingredients rich in fiber can help you lose weight while providing essential vitamins and minerals your body requires.
Can I eat meat on a plant-based diet?
Plant-based diets do not allow you to eat meat, fish, or poultry. However, certain foods can still be made from plant-based ingredients. However, people who are on a plant diet can still eat eggs or dairy in moderation. People who want to switch to a plant-based diet with more flavor and protein can find many options. Plant-based diets are primarily based on fresh fruits and veggies, legumes like beans and lentils as well as nuts and seeds such as oatmeal, quinoa, and soy products. They also include fortified foods such as non-dairy almond milk or coconut milk.
You can find vegan products at most grocery stores, in addition to vegan restaurants that specialize in vegan food. Tofu, seitan, tempeh (fermented soy beans), and mock chicken made from mushrooms all have the same flavor and texture as traditional meat dishes. A variety of vegetarian burgers using black beans and/or quinoa are available that can be very close to beef burgers.
For those who are looking for more than just a replacement for their favorite carnivorous foods, there are many plant-based alternative options. Tofu mayo, coconut bacon strips, eggplant bacon bits, and veggie hot dogs made from seasoned textured soybean protein are some vegan alternatives. All of these delicious options can also be used to make faux chicken strips with wheat gluten. Even though some processed forms, such as mushrooms and coconut bacon, may taste similar to pork or steak, when cooked well, they can still have similar sensory properties to meat but are far less environmentally impactful than livestock production. These alternative options can replace any meat one may have consumed in the past, making the transition to a plant based diet easier.
Can a plant diet be considered harmful?
Although many people have seen health benefits from a plant-based diet in the past, it is important to understand that any diet can be dangerous if it is not properly managed or with the help of a professional. People transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle should carefully consider proper vitamin and mineral intake, such as B12, iron, zinc, and Omega 3 fatty acids. Eating an unbalanced diet without replacements for these substances can cause deficiencies and negative health impacts. Additionally, following a purely vegan/plant-based lifestyle could mean cutting out valuable sources of protein found in dairy and eggs, which may hinder muscle maintenance. People who follow a plant-based diet must adapt their diets to meet their nutritional needs.

How to navigate social situations while on a plant-based diet?
Transitioning to a plant-based diet inevitably requires navigating social situations, such as eating out with friends and family. Take proactive steps before you dine out so that you can maintain your chosen diet and still enjoy delicious food. You should confirm which restaurant options you are interested in before going.
Talk to your friends and family about vegan options. This will help you avoid ordering errors at the restaurant, as well as avoiding awkward explanations or misinterpretations about your dietary restrictions. You can have faith in your chef and trust their judgement when making vegan dishes. If necessary, you can chat with them to help them better understand your needs.
If you are attending parties or events where vegans may not be well-known, make sure you have plenty of healthy snacks and drinks that aren't made from animal products. It is a great way to show your support! As your non-vegan relatives settle into incorporating vegan recipes over time, recognize even the smallest gestures made regarding a plant-based diet: after all, adjusting kitchen habits is an ongoing process.
While it might seem difficult at first to navigate social situations with a vegan diet, it becomes easier over time. It becomes second nature. You'll eventually feel it.
